The headshots posed more of a challenge than I thought it would be. For this photo shoot, I used the long lens so I could really zoom in on my subject. I was most challenged by making sure my mom’s skin tone was correct. I spent most of my time adjusting the lights and the exposure settings.
I first tried to take her picture with our living room light on. The light made her skin look very yellow, no matter how I adjusted the exposure. So, I decided to turn off the main light. I opened up the blinds of the big window that was right next to the navy wall my mom initially was posing against. Opening the blinds solved the yellow-tint issue, but then I ran into another problem.
With the blinds open, the exposure settings either washed out my mom or darkened her. I decided to shift her to another wall not directly near the window in hopes that the light wouldn’t be so bright. My decision worked well, and her skin in the pictures looked normal.
