I decided to take my feature photos at the NorthPark Mall because it was guaranteed that people would be around. The biggest difficulty I had capturing the photos was adjusting to the mall’s lighting. I didn’t realize how dim some areas of the mall are compared to other. The area where I took the photo of the pianist and violinist was dark with the exception of the bright lights from Neiman Marcus. The lights from Neiman Marcus gave off a harsh glare and made the subjects backlit. I couldn’t really adjust my position because was right against the wall and if I moved too far to the left, the piano would block the subjects.
Many of my initial photos came out blurry because I attempted to walk while taking pictures. I think because my shutter speed was so slow that it picked up the slightest of movements. I tried adjusting it higher, but the photos were overexposed.
Another thing I need to work on is to not feel pressure to take a quick shot. The bustling energy of the mall made me feel in the way and I rushed taking some photos. I just need to remind myself to take a deep breath.
