I enjoyed taking photos for this week’s assignment. For my environmental photo, I chose to capture two of my friends and co-RAs: Antwan and Carys. I decided that taking a picture of Antwan and Carys as they prepare for one of their building events would be perfect for my environment photo. Resident assistants do a lot of work behind-the-scenes to support and build community within on-campus housing. Antwan and Carys are constantly organizing and planning events to make Thomas House residents feel welcomed and valued.
Taking this photo was a bit difficult because I had to remind myself that this is not supposed to be an action photo. I found myself taking more pictures as they were baking, and I realized that I was missing the purpose of the assignment. I put my staging cap on and asked Antwan and Carys to pose behind the cookies. I think I could’ve staged a better pose, but I wanted to keep the cookies in the photo because it was center to work that Antwan and Carys does. To take the photo, I was balanced on a wobbly end table to get a higher angle because only the foil pans (and not the cookies) could be seen from a leveled angle.
Family Weekend and the "Iron Skillet" Boulevard was a little overwhelming and super crowded. I could not take many pictures of the boulevard because I woke up late. I also couldn't take many pictures of the game (like the field and stands) because I left behind the longer camera lens. (Side note: How do you take off and put on the lens?) I did, however, take a few pictures of individual people. I took this one photo of two men sitting beside each other decked out in an SMU and TCU polo and hat, but I forgot to get their names.
The pictures I took of my family came out good. I struggled with taking pictures of my mom because of her cap. I wanted to make sure that her face wasn’t dim, but it made her shoulder overexposed. The photo of my aunt and dad were easier to shoot because they moved the shade, but I still could not remove the glare from my dad’s head.
