I actually enjoyed this week’s photo assignment. I did not feel stress in finding a subject because there was a lot of after-hour activity on campus this weekend. Saturday, September 10, was SMU’s first home game, which meant hordes of students and alumni on the boulevard. I took my photo around 8:30 PM when the boulevard was less crowded because many people were still in the stadium or went home.

Though finding subjects was easy, actually capturing the photo took patience. Some areas provided more artificial light (streetlights). For instance, the area near Hillcrest parking garage is very bright because of the streetlights, the exterior lighting from the nearby buildings, and the lighting from the parking garage. When I was shooting pictures there, I kept my ISO on 800.

As I moved closer to the boulevard, I increased my ISO because there was less lighting. After a few failed attempts of taking pictures of people who standing further away from the streetlights, I decided to take photos of the people taking down their tents. The lighting was better because their tents were decorated with LED string lights.

Figuring out the best shutter speed was another issue I ran into. A few of my photos looked smudged or smeared because the shutter speed was too low. I also had to figure out to get rid of the glare some of the streetlights and lamps gave off. I attempted to take a picture of the Tiff Treats truck because it had a LED sign that read “Cookie Milk”, but I could not get rid of the glare
